Mahanama wins the 6th annual Battle of the Golds ODI encounter

Naveen Silva, with an unbeaten 36 runs, steered Mahanama College to a four wicket victory on Duckworth and Lewis system over D S Senannayake College, Colombo in their sixth annual limited overs cricket encounter at SSC grounds yesterday.

Batting first D S Senanayaka College were all out for 198 runs in 45.4 overs. Mahanama College had to chase a revised target of 168 runs in 31 overs after the rain disturbed their reply innings when their total was 94 for 5 in 21 overs. They reached the target in 30.5 overs.

Naveen Silva who played a vital innings of 36 not out was adjudged the man of the match.

DS Senanayaka College: 198 all out in 45.4 overs (Lasith Abeyratne 41, Harith Maduwantha 28, Duleeka Brahmanage 24, Nayana Prabath 2 for 34, Janaka Dayananda 3 for 26 )

Mahanama College: 168 for 6 in 30.5 overs (Pavan Devinda 21, Janaka Dayananda 28, Naveen Silva 36 n.o , Kaveen Bandara 2 for 25)

Battle of the Golds 2012 - DSS wins the 2nd annual T20 encounter by 45 runs

Mahanama OBA and DSS OBA cricket teams will meet again this year in their annual T20 encounter on the 29th of April at Cavaliers Cricket Grounds in Clayton.

The joint OBA effort is aimed at providing an opportunity for members and their families from both sides to get together and enjoy a day out watching the traditional rivalry between Mahanama and DSS continue in an exhilarating T20 encounter.

An exciting day has been planned out with drinks and food stalls along with music in between the breaks. We welcome all past students from both schools to come out and support your respective OBAs.

For all past college cricketers, this will be a fantastic opportunity for you to show your colours once again and represent your college. Please contact us directly if you are a past college cricketer and are interested in playing in this year's encounter.

Battle of the Golds 2012

 The sixth Annual Battle of the 'Golds' between D.S. Senanayake College and Mahanama College ended in a draw with D.S. Senanayake at the SSC grounds yesterday.

D.S. Senanayake College: 276 for 8 declared (U. Bandara 25, Binura Fernando 103, J. Dayananda 4 for 67).

Mahanama College: 29 for 1 overnight 171 (Pavan Devinda 38, Duleeka Tissakuttige 39, Chatura Jayasinghe 39, Hasith Maduwantha 5 for 58) and following on 228 for 8 in 45 overs (Duleeka Tissakuttige 51 (57 balls, 10 fours), Chatura Iddamarachchi 22, Pavan Devinda 41, Janaka Dayananda 55, Dayan Perera 31 n.o., Suchintha Karunaratne 3 for 48, Harith Maduwantha 2 for 58, Uvin Bandara 2 for 25).

Battle of the Golds 2012 - Mahamama aiming for a big win

Mahanama will meet their traditional rivals DS Senanayake at this year's Battle of the Golds with a talented side of young and senior players who have performed well in this year's cricket calendar. The senior team have recorded nine first innings wins including against teams from St.Peter's, Zahira, Lumbini, Maliyadeva, St.Servatius, Dharmapala, Joseph Vaz and Sri Sumangala.

Sri Lanka under 19 cap Duleeka Thisakuttige captains the side. The talented left hander has scored over 800 runs this season with a highest score of 143 runs against Thurstan College which included 14 hits to the rope and 3 over it. He has also knocked up brilliant centuries against St.Peter's, Lumbini and Wesley. 

Fifth year player Chathura Wanniarachchi is the vice captain of the squad who has knocked a total of 588 runs in 14 matches with a highest individual score of 123 runs against St.Joseph's College. Apart from that he has hammered two half centuries against St.Peter's College (61) and Sri Sumangala Panadura (82).  In bowling, he has taken 24 wickets for the season with a best of 3 for 26 against St.Anthony's College, Katugastota.

Pawan Devinda is another valuable player who has excelled in batting and wicket keeping. Pawan scored a total of 549 for the season in 14 matches with his highest individual score of 111 (not out) coming against Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala. He was also busy behind the stumps claiming 15 victims this season.  All roundered Janaka Dayananda has been amongst runs and wickets this year with a total of 434 runs and capturing 32 wickets including a best of 6 for 72 against Zahira College. He was unlucky to miss out on a fighting century against Malyiadeva when he was dismissed on 98.

Right arm fast bowler Nayana Prabath also been amogst the wickets this season bagging 40 wickets with a best 6 for 52 against Maliyadeva. Cricket enthusiasts will also be be keeping an eye on the exciting talents Pawan Devinda and Dulanj De Silva in this year's Battle of the Golds.
