Battle of the Golds 2012 - Mahamama aiming for a big win
Mahanama will meet their traditional rivals DS Senanayake at this year's Battle of the Golds with a talented side of young and senior players who have performed well in this year's cricket calendar. The senior team have recorded nine first innings wins including against teams from St.Peter's, Zahira, Lumbini, Maliyadeva, St.Servatius, Dharmapala, Joseph Vaz and Sri Sumangala.
Sri Lanka under 19 cap Duleeka Thisakuttige captains the side. The talented left hander has scored over 800 runs this season with a highest score of 143 runs against Thurstan College which included 14 hits to the rope and 3 over it. He has also knocked up brilliant centuries against St.Peter's, Lumbini and Wesley.
Fifth year player Chathura Wanniarachchi is the vice captain of the squad who has knocked a total of 588 runs in 14 matches with a highest individual score of 123 runs against St.Joseph's College. Apart from that he has hammered two half centuries against St.Peter's College (61) and Sri Sumangala Panadura (82). In bowling, he has taken 24 wickets for the season with a best of 3 for 26 against St.Anthony's College, Katugastota.
Pawan Devinda is another valuable player who has excelled in batting and wicket keeping. Pawan scored a total of 549 for the season in 14 matches with his highest individual score of 111 (not out) coming against Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala. He was also busy behind the stumps claiming 15 victims this season. All roundered Janaka Dayananda has been amongst runs and wickets this year with a total of 434 runs and capturing 32 wickets including a best of 6 for 72 against Zahira College. He was unlucky to miss out on a fighting century against Malyiadeva when he was dismissed on 98.
Right arm fast bowler Nayana Prabath also been amogst the wickets this season bagging 40 wickets with a best 6 for 52 against Maliyadeva. Cricket enthusiasts will also be be keeping an eye on the exciting talents Pawan Devinda and Dulanj De Silva in this year's Battle of the Golds.
